When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to assist with spam detection.

An anonymized string (hash) created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service. View their privacy policy at Automattic. After comment approval, your profile picture is visible to the public.

Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Website visitors can extract this data from any images displayed.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These exist for your convenience and last for one year.

When you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close the browser.

Upon login, several cookies are set to store login info and display preferences. Login cookies last two days, display preference cookies last a year. If “Remember Me” is checked, your login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes login cookies.

If you edit or publish an article, an extra cookie is saved. It includes the post ID and expires in 1 day.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on our website may include embedded content such as videos, images, or other articles. This content behaves exactly as if the visitor has visited the external website.

These third-party sites may collect your data, use cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction, especially if you have an account and are logged in to that site.

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, it and its metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be approved automatically instead of being held for moderation.

For users who register, we store the personal data they provide in their profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal data at any time (except usernames). Website administrators can also view and edit that data.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request a file of your personal data. You may also request that we erase any personal data we hold. This does not include data we’re required to keep for legal or security reasons.
